Jake Bacon and Family Christmas cards

I photographed Jake Bacon's family the other day. He helps me second shoot weddings from time to time. He's the photo editor of the Arizona Daily Sun newspaper.

This session was a good example of making the house location work for us. One of my favorite things is to shoot inside and outside the family's house. Often, I can find little nooks that make for great portraits. Later, in terms of family history, these photographs will carry great importance. It's the house where your first baby was born or where you got married and made so many memories together. It's important that the house not be forgotten as a part of your family history!

Mini Session & Holiday Card Special

For all of you who have yet to get a Holiday card together-- we have a great last minute opportunity for you to schedule a mini photo shoot at our studio. We are using a simple red wall that can be either red or gray (if you opt for black and white).

Here's how it works: We are offering 5 mini portrait sessions at our studio this Saturday, Monday and Tuesday afternoons - December 13th, 15th & 16th starting at 2:30PM. Each session will last no longer than 20 minutes.

The special session fee will be $125 and includes a set of 25 cards and envelopes. Additional sets of 25 cards are available for $75

What to wear: Black tops looked good for our trial session and is always flattering but solid colored tops will do. Consider that the background is red and try not to wear white.

You will be able to choose the photo from your session that afternoon to add to your choice of holiday cards. We are offering three options of cards for this shoot.

option 1: plain folded textured linen card with photo on front with 2 line custom greeting on the inside.

option 2: flat 5x7 card with photo inset to template below. 2 lines of custom text on the back of card

option 3: flat 5x7 card with photo inset to template below. 2 lines of custom text on the back of card

Call our studio today to book your session. 928-225-2511 or email us at cameron at cameronkellystudio dot com

Just a note--- We personally send New Year cards. It takes the stress out of trying to get something in the mail before December 25th.

Jenna & Emily | HS Seniors

I haven't ventured into this world of High School seniors as much as Jamelle, but Cameron + Kelly Studios will be offering LOTS of senior sessions for '09 (if you have time) and '10. This is Jenna and Emily of Flag High. These two have been best buds pretty much their whole lives and Matt --er Mr. Clark has known them almost 10 years. They bugged me to do a blog post, so I did a quick edit...no PhotoShop work here... but here you go girls... full edit of photos will be ready Monday, promise :) Oh, we did their session together, which worked out for this time, but I'll consider on a case by case basis in the future.

Tommy! Tommy! Tommy!

Tommy loves records, Tommy loves Mommy & Daddy, Tommy loves Curious George. My pal, Mary Jessica, who used to be my favorite reporter when I worked at the Athens Banner-Herald, has been kind enough to contribute to my baby business blog. While I was in Athens last month I photographed her precious child. To all you mommies out there I know how hard it is to snap that shutter fast enough to catch a two year old. Practically impossible without a professional camera. Good thing for f-stop 1.2 and my 85. I can't love that lens enough.

Cousins

On the way back from Athens to the Atlanta airport we spent the night with Matt's cousin Chris and his wife, Taylor and their daughter, Evy. Evy was very interested in holding the baby, feeding the baby and overall was a great big helper. I heard she cried a lot the day we left. I was at Chris and Taylor's house for a total of 5 hours before I went to sleep, 2 of which had natural light. We got up the next day and left. I promise to take more photos next time I see cute little Evelyn!

P.S Evy is HYPER camera aware. Many four to five year old suffer from this "affliction." It's hilarious-- she is like a little model; however, it does makes the documentary photos hard... see example below -- hee hee.

e-session | Brandy & Grady & Dom...

Dom Perringom that is! These two were crazy about champagne. Quick--er- long--interlude story...So as a good photojournalist I arrived in the "area" of my photo shoot about an hour and a half early... YES! Just enough time to hit the In and Out Burger. One burger (animal style), fries and a strawberry milkshake later, I roll north back to Carefree, AZ (north.... NORTH Scottsdale) to discover the location we'll be shooting at. Mind you I left enough time to arrive about 20 minutes prior to our appointment for scouting purposes. Here's where I remind myself NEVER EVER fully trust the directions you get from (1) a newspaper reporter or (2 )from Mapquest. Always consult a real map. So anyway, I was in my awesome paid-off AWD Subaru wagon zipping along some dirt road in the desert that map quest told me to take. Unlike back country Georgia, there was a sign... so I'm zipping around thinking "holy smokes" this is gorgeous country. Picture the desert before the strip malls, the cookie cutter houses, think Frank Lloyd Wright Taliesin West circa 1940. THIS is where I was. Ah! The old West... huge cactus, jackrabbits, tumbleweeds and gorgeous views without even the slightest hint of a green golf course or Target-Greatland. But wait, I was looking for said "golf club" and realized that now I was 10 minutes into this dirt-road-desert-bliss-mode and 7 minutes from our appointment. So what does an adventure gal like me do? Well, I got to the highest dirt mound I could find and spotted said club in the distance and I took a right on a rambling dirt road to get there. Certainly, one of these roads will get me close, right? WRONG. Needless to say, I had to backtrack through my beloved desert-side and go one more street down the main road to find a paved road to my destination (incidentially, I cannot COUNT the number of times this happened on assignment for the newspaper) Taking paved roads was not as romantic and fun, but alas it got me there... and only 5 minutes late to boot. Awaiting me was the very friendly Grady and radiant Brandy and a great bottle of Champagne. I was liking these folks already. Clients: take notes, bring a bottle of anything to loosen you up, it makes you look happier :) But also, don't try to pry a Champagne bottle out of this couple's vice grip. They are not kidding about their bubbly! Gorgeous club, fun couple! I can't wait to shoot their intimate wedding next Thursday and reception on Saturday. Enjoy these images.
P.S. Grady & Brandy live in California, and choose to do the e-session close to the wedding date, but normally I shoot e-sessions closer to the engagement...

location: The Golf Club Scottsdale

Studio with Ruth & Rebeca

First, thanks to John Running for letting me use his downtown studio. I had the idea that it might be nice to make a portrait of the Hays girls in the studio. I really love some of Mary Ellen Mark's twin's work. While I didn't spend too much time trying to get shot exactly like hers, I did do a straight on MEM style photo. There are many many more. For those of you anxiously awaiting these images and the Quinceanera images, check out the slideshow here.

Save the Date

Rebeca, Ruthi and Ruben are 14. Myself and the Hays triplets have the same birthday: October 16th which will be a landmark year for all of us as I turn 30 and they turn 15. In a traditional Mexican right of passage ceremony/party, the girls will celebrate their 'QuinceaƱera' (15th birthday). They will throw a huge party and I will photograph it, just as I do weddings. More interesting info to come as I photograph the girls this summer and the event in October. I did a save the date postcard image for the girls yesterday at Heritage square. This one is my favorite because of Ruben's expression in the background.
